Best Weekend Adventures Near Allentown for Defender Owners

One of the best things about owning a Defender is having the freedom to head out on an adventure whenever the mood strikes. Whether you are planning a day in the mountains, a weekend camping trip, or simply looking for a scenic drive, the Defender is built to take you there in comfort and confidence.
Here at Land Rover Allentown, we are fortunate to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful destinations in eastern Pennsylvania. Many of our customers tell us they bought a Defender because they wanted a vehicle that was just as comfortable driving through downtown Allentown as it was exploring the Pocono Mountains.
If you are looking for inspiration for your next weekend getaway, here are a few of our favorite destinations.
Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area
Drive Time: About 45 minutes
If a new Defender owner asks our team for one destination to visit first, the Delaware Water Gap is always near the top of the list.
The drive itself is beautiful, with winding roads following the Delaware River and plenty of scenic overlooks along the way. Once you arrive, you can spend the day hiking, kayaking, fishing, or simply enjoying the views.
For anyone who enjoys photography, this is one of the most scenic places in the region throughout every season.
Jim Thorpe
Drive Time: About 40 minutes
Jim Thorpe has become one of our favorite recommendations for Defender owners who enjoy combining great driving with a walkable downtown.
Known for its historic architecture and mountain scenery, Jim Thorpe offers local shops, restaurants, breweries, and access to Lehigh Gorge State Park. During the fall, it becomes one of the most popular destinations in Pennsylvania thanks to the colorful foliage.
It is the perfect place to spend the day before taking the scenic drive home.
Lehigh Gorge State Park
For customers who enjoy spending time outdoors, Lehigh Gorge State Park is hard to beat.
Bring your bikes, hiking gear, kayaks, or fishing equipment and spend the day exploring miles of trails and beautiful river views. The Defender makes it easy to carry everything you need for an active weekend without sacrificing comfort during the drive.
Nockamixon State Park
Drive Time: About 35 minutes
Looking for a relaxing day on the water?
Nockamixon State Park offers boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, hiking, and plenty of picnic areas. It is an easy drive from Allentown and makes for a great destination when you simply want to unplug for a few hours.
Many Defender owners appreciate having plenty of cargo space for coolers, outdoor gear, and everything needed for a full day at the lake.
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary
If you enjoy scenic mountain roads, Hawk Mountain should be on your list.
The drive through Berks County is beautiful, especially during the fall when the leaves begin to change. Once you arrive, you can hike to several overlooks and watch migrating hawks soaring above the valley.
It is one of those trips where the drive is just as enjoyable as the destination.
Trexler Nature Preserve
Not every adventure requires a long drive.
Located just minutes from Land Rover Allentown, Trexler Nature Preserve offers more than 17 miles of trails, beautiful overlooks, and opportunities to see bison and elk. It is a great place for an early morning hike or an afternoon spent outdoors with family.
Sometimes the best weekend adventures are the ones that are right in your own backyard.
Rausch Creek Off Road Park
For owners who want to experience what a Defender was truly built to do, Rausch Creek Off Road Park is well worth the trip.
Located about an hour from Allentown, the park features trails for beginners as well as experienced off road enthusiasts. It is one of the few places nearby where you can safely experience the impressive capability that makes the Defender one of the most respected adventure vehicles in the world.
If you decide to visit, be sure to travel with friends, bring the proper recovery equipment, and stay on designated trails.
Ready for Your Next Adventure?
One of the things we enjoy most about meeting new Defender owners is hearing where they plan to go first. Some head for the mountains. Others pack up the family for a weekend at the lake. Many simply enjoy finding a new scenic road every Saturday morning.
No matter where your next adventure takes you, the Defender is designed to make every drive memorable.
If you are ready to experience the Defender for yourself, stop by Land Rover Allentown. Our team would be happy to help you find the model that fits your lifestyle and your next adventure.
